Air Travel
Air travel is often the fastest way of traveling. You’ll get to your destination more quickly, giving your family more time to enjoy the sights. These simple tips will help make the quick journey a nice one.
Baby
Find out your airline's ticketing regulations. Some have age restrictions as to who flies free and who needs a ticket. Make sure your baby’s car seat meets FAA standards and can be used on the aircraft. Pack the baby’s diaper bag for any small emergency that may arise.
Young Children
Young children can find airline travel both exciting and frightening. Go over travel plan with them so that they know what to expect. Pack a bag of toys or activities so that they’re entertained during the flight. You can also request children’s meals through the airline if you book ahead.
Time
Always arrive at the airport with extra time to spare. You do not want to be rushing through the airport with your children in tow. Ask to be pre-boarded if you have small children or need extra help to secure the car seat. You may want to have one parent check in while the other takes care of the children. This will lessen the time you spend getting your boarding passes. Be aware that this may not always be possible.
Food
Pack lots of snacks and beverages to cover the time in the airport and on the plane. Your child may get hungry or antsy while waiting for the plane to board or take off. They may not like the meal they’re served. It’s possible that the long flight will make them hungry. Be prepared to supply them with healthy snacks if they want them.
Benefits of a Window Seat
If you book the window seat for your child, you can allow them to look out the window and point out the passing landmarks. This is a nice time for you to teach your child interesting facts about the land below. Your child will also experience fewer distractions in a window seat then in an aisle seat. He or she can be insulated from the strangers across the aisle, since unknown people may cause your child to become distressed.
