Family-Friendly Destinations

When you think of family vacations, the first thing that usually comes to mind is theme parks. While theme parks are a natural choice for families, there are other great options as well. Look at what's possible and go from there.

Theme Parks

Rides, games, fun for the kids. And often there’s fun for the adults as well. Theme parks allow families to have a great time together without leaving many out. (Do check out any minimum height requirements for the rides.) Investigate any family discounts that the park may offer, as well as nearby lodging options if you will be staying at the park for more than one day. Your children will be sure to have lots of fun and create many happy memories.

Camping

Fresh air, tents, and sleeping outdoors make camping a wonderful option. Your children will enjoy the back-to-nature feel of the vacation while you are afforded the peacefulness that only nature can provide. Picnics in the woods, fishing with the family, and nature hikes will make camping a real family-bonding experience. Do a test run of camping by putting a tent in the backyard to get your children used to the idea. Once they warm up to it, perhaps even spending a night in the tent, you’re ready to try a camping trip away from home.

Cities

You can visit another city easily with your family. Plan ahead and find kid-friendly hotels that will provide entertainment for your children when you’re not out in the city. Reservations made ahead of time, as well as tickets bought in advance, will cut down on stress. Also, make a list of family-friendly places to visit as well as family-friendly restaurants so that you won’t be at a loss for great ideas once you get there.

Drives

Vacations don’t have to be big productions. A ride out to the lake could serve just as well for a family getaway. Decide your route, time your stops, and plan for any detours that may occur. You can even have a family picnic along the way, as well as combining your trip with a little history. Entertainment with the family can take place anywhere as long as you’re willing to try.
